CHEAP DIGITAL CAMERAS

How to Choose Digital Camera

Write down what your primary goal is. Why do you need a camera? If all you need is a camera for vacation snapshots, then a cheaper model might be better for you.

  1. Write down how many times you expect to be using the camera. The more you use it, the more likely you are to upgrade your camera. Buy nice or buy twice.
  2. 3
Write down how much you want to spend. This is a good way to gauge what quality of camera you will be buying. Don't be afraid to go a little over so that you can get a camera that you will keep much longer.
  3. 4
Decide if you want analog or digital. Both types have pluses and minuses:
    • Analog (film camera): Now that a good number of hobbyists and professionals are going digital, film cameras have the advantage of being extremely cheap compared to a digital camera of the same quality. Film cameras do not have the same issues with noise as low-range digital cameras, though of course you get grain from the film. On the other hand, developing film can get expensive if you're taking lots of photos. Bear in mind that you might want to include a good-quality scanner in your budget.
    • Digital: The main advantage of digital cameras is the ability to view the pictures that you have taken right after taking the shot. This results in not wasting money on unwanted prints and you can retake a shot if needed. A beginner should almost invariably buy a digital camera, not necessarily an expensive one though something with available manual control such as a mid-range point and shoot or low-end or old DSLR is good, since the process of improving generally involves taking a great many bad photos and seeing what went wrong. Digital cameras let one get through this process quickly and unconstrained by budget. You can also print and edit any picture you want. These days, you can go to Kodak or cord camera's website and upload your pictures and they'll send you prints for about 15 cents a pop. It's much cheaper to have a picture (or group of pictures) printed by a commercial printer than to print it yourself on an inkjet printer.

Android Tablets

Sure, the Apple iPad 2 is already available in India, and it indeed is a remarkable device, and Windows 8 tablets are right around the horizon, but there's plenty of action happenning at the Android front. You can expect a full fleet of tablets from Tier 1 manufacturers this year.

While early Android tablets were just scaled up smartphones, Google has also introduced a tablet specific version known as Honeycomb.

The Indian market does not have many Honeycomb devices at present, but we expect more to gradually make their way soon.

Here we bring you 12 Android-powered tablets available in the Indian market.

Tablets are pretty much a slice of IT life now, so it stand to reason that the media will mention one of them at least once during a day, though in this case Lenovo introduced three of them.

The Android 4.0 operating system otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich, has been on the lips of many people lately.
However, it hasn't actually been completed or added to any tablet, meaning that honeycomb is still the most advanced form of the mobile software.

As it happens, this very operating system was used by Lenovo in its making of the IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad Tab.

Lenovo also went further back, building the IdeaPad A1, which features Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

Apparently, the IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad Tab have 10.1-inch displays and will either settle for WiFi or integrate 3G as well.

The former has 32 GB of storage, while the latter has 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions, plus enterprise features like Ciso VPN and encrypted SD card support.

Both slates have micro HDMI, optional WCDMA, microSD card slots, WiFi, 1 GB RAM, a screen resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels and two webcams (5 MP and 2 MP, back and front).

The third tablet, the IdeaPad A1, has a display of 7 inches and makes do with 16 GB of storage.

1 .What are the courses offered by IIPM?
IIPM offers a Full Time Programme in Planning and Entrepreneurship. Students who typically join the same after graduation do a 20 month (18 month Programme + 2 month of Project) programme at IIPM while students who want to join the same after 10+2, do the three year programme.

2. Are the IIPM programmes similar to MBA/MBE programmes offered by other business schools?
No. IIPM from the very beginning has maintained that its programmes are far superior in content and intellect to MBA/MBE programmes offered by other business schools. IIPM programmes are a globally unique combination of entrepreneurship, economics (with focus on national and international economic planning), management and marketing. Even in rigor the IIPM programme is far ahead of MBA programmes taught anywhere else in the world. The IIPM programme is a 200 credit programme, while MBA programmes across the world are typically 66 to 120 credits maximum. To know more about IIPM courses we highly recommend that you read the course content link on our website.

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. How does one apply to IIPM?
IIPM advertisements come out regularly in all the leading newspapers in India. Once you see the ads. You decide which session to join i.e., Fall- Winter or Spring Summer. Accordingly one can obtain the IIPM prospectus from IIPM offices by hand or by post. IIPM highly recommends that prospective students visit IIPM branches themselves, talk to the counselors/ Deans and also speak to existing students to find out about the world-class education imparted at IIPM.

2. Does it cost to buy an application form?
No. IIPM application forms are available for free whether by hand or by post.

ADMISSION TESTS

Is the IIPM admission test similar to the CAT or the GMAT?
No. IIPM admission test is a unique composition of a written test followed by a group discussion and a personal interview. All students have to go through all the three. This difference is there since IIPM believes – and world wide studies prove the same- that to become a great future entrepreneur or manager a high EQ is far more important than just high IQ. Therefore while the written test tests the IQ as well as EQ, the group discussion and personal interview are focused more on an applicants EQ. For more details please refer to the selection process link on the website.

FINANCIAL AID

Does an IIPM student get bank loans.
Yes. Most banks in India accept an IIPM admission letter as ground for its education loans. However IIPM has its financial partners as well, who guarantee loans to all students who get selected at IIPM. So basically it means that if you get selected at IIPM then you can study at IIPM regardless of your financial condition.

GLOBAL EXPOSURE

1. Do all IIPM students go for the global internship programme of IIPM (GOTA) to various countries abroad?
Yes. All students who join IIPM go for its global internship programme to various developed countries of the world.

2. For how many days does the programme last?
Students joining the 20 month (18 month Programme + 2 month of Project) programme are taken for a fortnight (it may last even for 12 days depending on connectivity and ticket availabilities. For students joining the Three Year Programme it lasts for a week in their first year of studies and for an additional fortnight in their 2nd/ 3rd year of studies.

3. Do the students need to pay additionally for anything?
Yes. For their personal shopping!! All other expenses (minus the passport making and visa expenses) are borne by the institute. That actually includes airfare, boarding, lodging, tuition, inter city transport for various classes and industry visits.. almost everything one can possibly think of!!

4. Do foreign faculty from leading business schools abroad come to take classes at IIPM?
Yes. Faculty from almost all of the top twenty B- schools have come to teach at various branches of IIPM. A shortlist of faculty who have taken classes at IIPM is there in the Global Faculty link in our website.

5. Do they come only to take lectures on individual topics or they also take the entire subject?
Yes they come primarily to share their thoughts on topics closest to their hearts and topics they have mastered in. However, they also come at times to take the entire subject as well. An example of the same is Investment Banking Course at IIPM. The entire course is taught by faculty from the National University of Singapore (NUS).

CREDENTIALS

1. Does AICTE/UGC recognize IIPMs programme in planning and entrepreneurship?
No. IIPM has never sought recognition from any statutory bodies and is proud of its world class course contents. Students bothered about statutory recognition of IIPMs programmes need not apply to IIPM. The exceptional education that IIPM imparts and the excellent placements offered to IIPM graduates year after year is proof of the massive industry recognition of IIPM’s courses.

2. Does IIPM award an MBA/BBA degree?
No. In India degrees can be awarded only by universities and therefore just like the IIMs, even IIPM (which is not an university) does not offer an MBA/BBA degree. Our courses being superior in contents to regular MBA programmes does not merit the same either. In fact IIPM has never sought any kind of statutory recognition from any government body ever. The value of the IIPM certificate lies in the excellent Course content and also placements that IIPM students get year after year and in the no. of students who put their faith in the IIPM programme every year. However students who do the IIPM programme in Planning and Entrepreneurship become eligible for a Post Graduate Degree in Management (comparable to MBA) / Graduate Degree in Management (comparable to BBA) from the International Management Institute in Brussels, Europe. For further details on IMI please log on to www.timi.edu . IMI gives the same to IIPM students in recognition of the excellence of IIPM programmes independently to those students who apply for it.

PLACEMENTS

1. When do placements start and how long do they last.
Placements for the spring summer batch typically starts in October and gets over by the end of February. Placements of the Fall winter batch starts by December and gets over by end of april. Most of the students are of course placed at least two months before the end of the placement season. The IIPM placements last a little longer than normal business school placements because a majority of companies who visit IIPM go to more than one campus and since during placement season as well as because while most institutes have only about 100 students, IIPM has more than 2000 students joining in all its branches put together.

2. Does IIPM guarantee placements?
No. Even the Prime Minister of the country cant guarantee jobs. Jobs depend upon the economic situation of the country at a given point of time. However past experience suggests that about 70 percent of students joining IIPM every year opt for placements as the others end up joining their own businesses or start their own ventures or go for further studies. Almost hundred percent of these 70 percent students who opt for placements every year get placed before they pass out of IIPM. IIPM does not have a maximum interview criteria for any student. Students are given a chance to sit for interviews till they get placed. Zee News termed the IIPM placements as a ”national record” in terms of the numbers in 2008. That’s IIPM’s commitment to placing students.

3. Does IIPM have global placements?
Yes. In all probabilities after the IIMs, IIPM is the institute that places maximum no. of students globally every year now. In the year 2008 the total no of students placed by IIPM internationally stood at 165. This figure did not include any inter group placements within IIPM or its associate companies.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES

1. Does IIPM provide similar infrastructure in all its branches?
No. IIPM has a 5 acre campus in Delhi. The Delhi campus has facilities of sprawling greens and a swimming pool etc . All other IIPM branches operate out of modern IIPM towers. They look and feel similar. They are multi storied beautiful and extremely spacious glass towers. All IIPM towers as well as the Delhi campus has facilities for sports like billiards/ pool, gymnasiums etc. However IIPM Tower in Mumbai additionally also has a roof top swimming pool. Its obvious that all IIPM branches have huge libraries, lovely cafeterias and are Wi-Fi.

2. Do students have to buy their own laptops at IIPM?
No. IIPM provides all students with FREE laptops because laptops have become a necessity for modern day world- class education.

MISCELLANEOUS

What are the other aspects of IIPM that IIPM stands proud of?
IIPM is extremely proud of the quality of its permanent faculty and their research and publication work. It takes out 5 of the most world class management and economy journals that come out of India. They are highly respected, sought after and leading authorities of various subjects contribute regularly for them. IIPM Faculty Rajita Chaudhuri on to Sell Your Product, Go to the Movies

10/11/2011 -- Last month, a beautiful film named Dolphin Tale hit the theatres. Based on a true story, it’s a ‘tale’ about a dolphin without a ‘tail’. It’s the story about a young boy’s efforts to convince scientists to create a prosthetic tail for this dolphin named Winter , whose tail had got amputated. In doing so, he not just changes the life of the dolphin but also of the people around him. It’s a story of grit and determination. It made the audiences cry and the producers fly high – in North America, the movie grossed $14 million from Friday to Sunday.

It opened at #3 but rose to the #1 spot in the second week, something not very common.

A GOOD STORY HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE ALL BOX OFFICE RULES!

Not just is Warner Bros very happy with the performance of the film, but so is ‘Clearwater Marine Aquarium’. This is the water-park in Florida where the movie was filmed, and Clearwater cannot thank its stars enough. Even before the movie opened, visitors to the water park increased tremendously. The impact of the movie has been so great that the aquarium is now spending $12 million in expansion including a new

“Dolphin Tale” exhibit. The aquarium now also has a new website and calls itself “The home of Winter”.

The dolphin’s tale of survival has worked wonders for a lot of people and a lot of brands too, apart from the Clearwater aquarium.

It shows the little boy doing all his searches, not on Google but on Gigablast which calls itself the ‘leading clean-energy search engine’ as it uses wind energy to provide 90% of the power required to run its servers. The movie also features Dell laptops and a whole lot of other brands. Both marketers and viewers are more than familiar with this form of marketing. The trick is to do it intelligently so that it creates an impact and does not look tacky. There is hardly any big film released today without brands being an integral part of them. This medium is after all the most powerful of all and can do wonders for a brand.

THE POWER OF FILMS

Some products that have benefitted the most out of in-film branding have not just been ‘products’ but rather countries. Just as Clearwater Aquarium has benefitted from the movie Dolphin Tale, so have a whole lot of other places. After Lost in Translation was released, everyone wanted to go to Tokyo. Almost all of Yash Chopra’s films have worked as powerful advertisements for Switzerland. Hrithik’s debut film Kaho Na Pyar Hai was responsible for doubling the Indian tourism to New Zealand. The latest to hit the Indian box office, Zindagi Na Milege Dobara, will do wonders for Spain.

If there is one city that has been featured innumerable times in films , then it is New York. Every year, hundreds of films feature New York and the city understands the impact this has on its tourism. So the Mayor’s Office in New York offers free filming permits, police assistance and even gives you location advice if you want to shoot a film there. After all, product placement of the city will help both the parties – for if a film is able to capture the essence of a city on camera, then it becomes the most powerful promotional tool for the city.

James Bond films have been most famous for in-film branding. When the Aston Martin was featured in the Bond film Goldfinger, it was such a big hit that the company put it on its brochure. Product placement specialist Karen Sortito ensured that BMW’s new model Z3 shone as bright as James Bond in the film Golden Eye. In fact, the in film placement was so successful that not just did the sales of the BMW, Z4 skyrocket after the movie’s release, but Karen found a long line of brands waiting at her doorstep to help them get visibility. For the next Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, she could well rope in $100 million worth of tie-ups with brands like Omega, L’Oreal, Avis etc.

Your product might be good but it needs the right ‘image’ to stand out in the marketplace. It has to have a distinct personality which its buyers can associate with. In film branding helps it do just that.

If there is one company that understands the power of in-film branding, it’s Apple. Think of any hit movie and chances are you will find an Apple product. Be it blockbusters like Ironman, The Social Network, Tron, The Twilight Saga, 17 Again, Transformers, Cars 2 , Green Lantern, or Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Apple has been the constant star.

When it comes to product placement dominance, this brand leads. For more than three years in a row, Apple has been the most visible brand in films. This year, it featured in 13 films. The next visible brand is Chevrolet that featured in 9 movies. In 2009, it topped the charts by featuring in 19 movies; then, again in 2010, it ranked one, for it was seen in 10 films. The next in line on visibility in movies is Nike. It appeared in 8 films. There is no formula yet to calculate ROI but it’s clear that it pays to be in the limelight! The wine company ‘Clos Du Val’ ensured that it made an appearance in 100 films by simply sending the directors of the movies free cases of its wine. The winery reported an increase of 50 percent in its sales after this!

THE IMAGE GAME

Movies do influence our buying decisions. As Andy Warhol put it beautifully years ago, “It’s the movies that have really been running things in America ever since they were invented. They show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, how to feel about it, and how to look how you feel about it.”

Once a brand is featured in a movie, it changes its image totally. The brand develops a personality of its own based on which star uses it in the movie, where it’s used and how it’s used. Think about it – if Pepsi succeeds in convincing Spiderman to drink Pepsi in the movie, I am sure it would defeat Coke, for every child would want it, to become like Spiderman. It’s all about personality. Be it politics or business, the one with the ‘coolest’ personality always outshines others. Movies develop an aura around a brand and give it a unique personality which helps it differentiate itself from competitors and win market share. Years ago, Morgan Spurlock made a documentary on McDonald’s, titled Supersize Me. In this docu, Morgan ate only at Mc-Donald’s for a month and showed how he gained weight and developed a whole lot of health problems, proving how dangerous fast food is. The film got everyone thinking, including McDonald’s which now has introduced healthier options in its menu. That’s the power of a strong image and nothing can get stronger than the images one sees on that huge screen in the movie hall.

It creates the strongest of impressions. To prove how strong ‘images’ are, Spurlock made a documentary again which got everyone talking, yet again. The documentary was titled “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” He shows the effect of product placement and advertorial tie-ups at the movies. In fact, the title of his film itself proves how strong an impact a movie can create. The full name of his documentary is “POM Wonderful Presents the Greatest Movie Ever Sold” and the pomegranate juice manufacturer Pom Wonderful paid him $1 million for the title.

Morgan made his point even before one saw the first scene of the film. He says after seeing his documentary the public would change their whole perceptions about the movies.

Yes, the key word is perception. That’s exactly what movies build and once your brand is featured in a blockbuster, it will change the way the audience looks at your brand.

So if you really want your brand to become a star, you need to head for the movies, for that’s the place where stars are made.
